Awesome Sketch Eli!

(but your design rationale could have been a little more robust).

I really like feature of the day. This would work so well because each and every time the user logs on, they would be confronted with another feature offered by Google Maps. This would allow users to understand everything Google Maps has to offer. By cycling through new features daily, users may become interested with an unknown feature, explore it, and may eventually lead to exploring another feature offered by Google Maps. This idea sparks user curiosity.. Very good idea

I really like the idea of having separate application boxes and bars prominently displayed on the screen. This means less searching for that particular application from the user and for users that did not know directions from Google Maps existed, this is an easy way to demonstrate that capability. I also really liked the customize Google Maps tab. This adds an element of personalization and individuality to Google Maps. It also makes navigating to certain features quicker for each user because each user has the capabilities to customize their own tab which caters to exactly their own needs. Good Work!

I understand what you are trying to accomplish with your sketch. Its very similar to what I was thinking with my design. It helps keep the same look and invites the user to see what exactly are the other features it has to offer. I think a combination of your browse button and the toolbar sketch I created would help facilitate the users to see what all they can do with Google Maps.

I think the ease of this potential site is great. This would definitely help with the familiarity problem and would hopefully make sure that the user never had a problem trying to find something on Google Maps again. I also thought having them be able to chose whether they wanted the list view or map view was a great idea as well. I know that I personally never look at the list view so I would find this to be a good addition to the site. A suggestion I would have is that this may be a little too simple. It no longer reminds me of Google and I think we should still keep a similar look. I also think we should keep the search box at the top so if they do not have the address they are able to search for it on the same site.

I thought your idea of putting in an easy application to use that shows you different places of interest in between your two locations makes a lot of sense and would definitely be found useful. I also thought your use of strong and bold colors was a great idea as well. I do feel as though we should try to keep to a sketch that still resembles Google. I thought it was great that everything was very straightforward on your sketch but I think adding more ways to edit your location/have a default address/have the ability to go to a street view/etc. is important as well so hopefully that will be something we can tie into our interface during the next group meeting.

I think the mobile industry in terms of mapping is something that has been explored, but no single company has completely taken over and integrated all of the features of GPS navigation devices into a mobile device. With this mock up, it appears that you are attempting to make Google Maps the default mapping system, which I think is a great idea. The most important feature in my opinion that you implemented was that of the voice prompted directions. I think whoever can accomplish this step first will have a huge advantage over its competitors. Have you considered what phone providers (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, etc...) that you think would take an interest, as well as which cell phone makers (Apple, Motorola, Samsung...) would be interested. It would be interesting to see what phones currently available would be able to implement this new feature with maybe only a slight upgrade (Ex: iPhone application download).
Overall a great idea and something I think we should explore more.
