Understanding the Problem Space

The chapter one and two readings stress the importance of understanding the problem space and the user experience before moving in to the “nuts and bolts” of the product such as hard coding or physically building the product.

What techniques can you think of to maximize the quality of your understanding of the problem space? We can do things such as interviewing users and giving mass surveys. Can you think of other ways to understand the problem space? Say for example if you are attempting to improve a website, like we are for class.
